PROFESSIONAL PICKLEBALL REGISTRY FOLLOWUP

PTR/PROFESSIONAL PICKLEBALL REGISTRY (PPR) THE PROFESSIONAL TENNIS REGISTRY CONNECTION

I attended the July 24, 2018 Professional Pickleball Registry, Professional Pickleball Coaching Certification Workshop at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center, Hilton Head, SC, which included a mix of 14 pro pickle ball instructors and pro tennis coaches. The PPR is a newly created subsidiary of the Professional Tennis Registry, and newly endorsed Education and Certification Partner of the USAPA.

The PPR's finally provided me a written “CONFIDENTIAL DO NOT FORWARD” decision regarding my appeal of their “unprofessional, unorganized July 24, 2018 Pickleball Coaching Certification Workshop  based solely on candidates with the best paddle skills, over candidates with the best coaching and teaching skills.

If you think this matter just concerns me, and “I am beating a dead horse,” guess again ? Its about “Who Controls Pickleball,  and Who Will Controls The Money Generated By Pickleball.  The ever growing sport of pickle ball is generating lots of new money.  Other racquet sports are declining in members and experiences losses in revenues. Conspiracy theorist, you say ? No So!  This is happening and happening now. I am currently a lone voice but I am not afraid to sound the alarm, for what ever the cost may be. Simply  because I love the current innocence and purity of the sport of Pickleball.

I would suggest that every Pickleball Instructor, Pickleball and Pro Pickleball Coach read the September/October 2018 Issue PICKLEBALL MAGAZINE, “Tennis And Pickle ball -- A Match Made In Heaven?  By Justin Maloof, USAPA Executive Director.

Ask yourself “Why Is The Tennis Industry Now Extending An Olive Branch To Pickle ball ? Remember when, not too long ago, Tennis Players were repulsed by the nearby popping sound of a  pickle ball hitting a paddle. Nor would our Tennis friends ever allow pickle ball lines to be added to tennis courts.

Now all of a sudden, the Tennis Industry is adding pickleball line courts to their Racquet Clubs, and offering Professional Pickleball Coaching Services by their inhouse Professional Tennis Coaches.

Mr. Maloofs article has provided the answers to these questions and concerns about the good intentions of the Tennis Industry blossoming love affair with Pickleball.

  1. Tennis industry will swallow up pickleball as club and public pros become Directors of Racket Sports and current tennis racket, apparel and equipment manufacturers swallow up the smaller pickleball suppliers. The pro circuits drive much of the money in the tennis industry because of television contracts. Badminton and racketball never did figure out how to overcome its poor presentation on television. Pickleball, if it needs a successful pro circuit to drive participation numbers(which may be an inaccurate assumption), will have to figure out the technological logistics to make it a better TV sport. Current pickleball TV presentation just does not do justice in giving the viewer a true sense of pro skill level and athleticism. But, perhaps the other racket sports are better off without the corruption of the money. I was the tournament director of the U.S. National Badminton Championships and we put it on with about 10 volunteers in the 70's!!!
