PICKLEBALL HOME PRACTICE AID FOR RECOVERING INJURED PLAYERS

RECOVERY UPDATE: ACHILLES TENDON TEAR REPAIR SURGERY 12/19 PHYSICAL THERAPY WAS CANCELED DUE TO THE CURRENT SITUATION.

I am continuing my home exercises, stationary bike riding 20 minutes daily, and walking around the outside of the house in regular court shoes.  Needless to say my feet are sore and swollen afterwards but that's normal during this recovery process.
I also walk out to my truck parked next to my house in my drive way and practice driving using my right foot.  Its like a driving simulator.  Each day I use my home pickleball practice aid and hit 200 shots, mostly different spin variations, top spin, back spin, underspin, cross spin and cross-back spin.
This home practice aids allows me to practice repetitive shots and watch the different effects that spin has on a ball.  I also practice hitting the ball with my eyes closed.  Once I get in the Zone of just hitting without thinking, I will shut my eyes and just let my body mechanics time and hit the ball as it returns back to the strike point.
The best I have done to date is 10 closed eye hits without a miss. So much for the rule of always keeping you eye on the ball.  Its amazing what muscle memory can do when you let it.
This "device" can be easily made using the white1" diameter PVC pipe & fittings.

The overall vertical height is 6 feet tall. the horizontal bar holding ball is 3 feet long. The three leg stand horizontal supports are 2 feet each in length.  You will also need 1" diameter  PVC fittings such as elbow and a 3 way fitting at base to secure stand legs.  If you have problems with the device tipping over, just lay bag of grass seed or mulch overtop the legs to keep from toppling over.

The pickleball is attached to a 4 foot length of para cord or heavy fishing line.  The holes in an indoor ball are big enough to easily thread the cord or fishing line thru with the need for drilling.  Tie the cord or line off on the outside end of the cord that protrudes from the ball. Attach the top end of the cord thru a small hole drilled into the end of the 3 foot pvc bar. Start hitting away as the ball swings back and forth.  You will need to develop your own style of repetitive hitting the ball as it swings back and forth. You can practice most any stroke and spin with this rig.  If you cannot stand, sit in a wheel chair or kitchen chair and practice away. Have fun while recovering & get back to the courts.
