Part 1 Identifying The Problems
Many· Current adult beginners pickleball instruction classes are not producing players with the fundamental skill sets or basic game knowledge necessary to participate in Open Play Pickleball Venues.
· Often new players go directly to Open Play Venues without any training or game knowledge. Or they attend a free Beginners Class, and they decide for themselves that they are ready for Open Play without completing a Beginners Instruction Course.
Unschooled new players who enter Open Play often create
unnecessary delays of game, and confusion among other players, due to frequently hitting the ball out of bounds and violating rules that know nothing about.
These new players disrupt the order of play not knowing which skill level group to play with. This causes excessive between game waiting time for experienced players, and missed opportunities to play with other experience like-skilled players. .
This creates contention among experienced players who come to play, but now are stuck with trying to teach newbies how to play during scheduled open play time. And these newbies will learn a lot of bad habits from well intention players who try to help them. This scenario can also be intimating for new players who find themselves playing pickleball way over their heads.
Experienced player are losing the opportunity to play with like-skilled players. As court time becomes more scarce, experienced players want to be challenged in their play, and not having to educate inexperienced players on the basic fundamentals of the game.
Even some of the new players who complete a Beginners Pickleball Course are not yet ready for prime time pickleball.
SO WHAT HAS GONE WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM OF SCHOOLING NEW PLAYERS TO THE POINT WHERE THEY ARE READY TO PARTICIPATE IN OPEN PLAY PICKLEBALL.
SHORT ANSWER: Lack of structured Progressive Beginners' Pickleball Instruction Courses that teaches new players the IPTPA Curriculum of stroke development of breaking the stroke down its most basic components to build a correct stroke. And test the students ability to demonstrate the use of those components before learning how to execute the basic shots in pickleball.
- During this entire learning process, each individual student's progress must be accurately tracked simply because some students learn faster than others, and good coaching can teach different levels simultaneously.
