COACHING FOR PROFIT ON PLAYERS PAID TIME

CCPB Members pay for their indoor pickleball open play time, and the amount of time CCPB is allocated is not a lot.  As a Coach, and a member of CCPB, I canl speak only for myself.  Since I have been a member of CCPB,  I have willingly and freely given of my skills improvement knowledge and in-game problem solving to any member who came and asked for help.  All the coaching services I have offered CCPB members I have never asked for any fee.

Nor have I occupied any court space or time in providing lessons or tips. Even during last summer at the outdoor courts, I volunteered my time and services to teach several  newcomers to play pickleball, as opposed to participating in the OPEN PLAY Games.  I was happy to do this because I love teaching pickleball to newbees and intermediate players.

As a IPTPA Certified Pickleball Teaching Professional Coach Level II, I am qualified to teach up to the Intermediate 3.5 Level of Pickleball.  Plus I carry the necessary Liability Insurance for those Coaching Services. I could easily charge $30-50 hourly rates for 3 player clinics of 2 hours, but I don't   This latest offer to bring a ball machine for todays outdoor practice and provide 20 minute individual coaching services to any member, I  asked only for a contribution of any amount to be made to CCPB Club, and nothing was going to me.

If CCPB members are paying for court space and time usage specifically to play OPEN PLAY PICKLEBALL, is it fair to ask they to donate this valuable court time for a coach to charge the same players for teaching them to improve their game?   Another question of ethics arise when coaches or instructors for any armature sport, charge for lesson on public funded, public access facilities.

PHMS outdoor tennis and pickleball courts are is a public tax payer funded recreational opportunity intended for the residents of the area.  I don't think that the County Government would approve private fee based instructions on courts reserved for public use. Unless said instructions were openly advertised and accessible to the general public at large,  such conduct my be deemed "discriminatory," especially for those who could not afford the fee.

The worst case scenario would be is someone receiving instructions from a private fee based coach on a public use recreational court, was injured during the lesson, the liability claim from this injury would most likely include CCPB Club and the Coach(s) involved.

Bottom line. if the majority of the CCPB members want to give up their "PAY FOR  OPEN PLAY" limited court space and time usage, for fee-based  Coaching Services that's their choice.  However, the County Rec Center may not appreciate sublease court space and usage for a profit making service, without due approval of an authorized permit.

Area residents who pay for outdoor recreational courts may well complain to local councilmen if they findout their neighborhood tennis or pickleball court is being used to provide instructional services for profit.

I am sure this dissertation, expressing opposing points of view, and concerns is not going to receive any  accolades and applause from those who dare to read this text.  BUT FRANKLY MY DEAR CHARLOTTE, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN! quoted from GONE WITH THE WIND, famous line said by Brett Butler [Clark Gable] to Charlotte O'Hare (Vivian Lee).
