CHARM CITY PICKLEBALL CLUB COACHING FOR BEGINNERS & EXPERIENCED PLAYERS
In response to the "skill specific" coaching sessions at PHMS, I have not as yet committed to a specific day and time. The logistic involved in teaching pickleball to a variety of skill levels at one time, is contrary to what the IPTPA Teaching Methods recommend.
As an IPTPA Certified Professional Pickleball Coach, with Liability Insurance as a professional coach, I must follow the IPTPA mandates for teaching and coaching pickleball. Should I not comply to these rules, I could well loose my certification, which I have worked so hard to acquire.
As an IPTPA Certified Professional Pickleball Coach, with Liability Insurance as a professional coach, I must follow the IPTPA mandates for teaching and coaching pickleball. Should I not comply to these rules, I could well loose my certification, which I have worked so hard to acquire.
IPTPA standards for coaching and instruction are my responsibility as a member in good standing.
Another factor that I must consider when coaching or teaching is selecting, transporting and onsite setup of the necessary court equipment, accessories, 100 balls minimum and practice paddles, and a variety of different "visual teaching aids, hands-on or mechanical, ball feeding methods, and a ball recovery device to maximize court usage time.
Last but not the least of all, is selecting a "skill specific lesson plan" to coach or teach at the "level" of the participants. This also includes "detecting player problems and providing solutions to correct those problems."
Again, coaching and teaching pickleball is not "one size fits all." It is specialized instructions based on the individuals past and present pickleball experience, their mobility and their inherent paddle skills. This is why most coaches specify the required skill levels for attending a "clinic." Players who do not meet those minimum skill sets and choose to attend a skill specific clinic, will not relate to the topics of instruction and will jeopardize the learning process for other members of the group.
Upon request, I have freely provided on-the-spot coaching and teaching services to individual members of CCPB, whenever and wherever needed, whether they be "beginners or intermediate players," or a combined mixture.
I would like to continue this protocol but in a more "skill specific" format,. This will allow me to schedule my time and make ready the appropriate court equipment and teaching aids, for transport and setup at the selected site.
For the convenience of CCPB members availability, and limit their driving time and distances, I am proposing the following COACHING AND TEACHING SESSIONS to be on the same days as CCPB Outdoor Open Play at the PHMS public (free) pickleball courts. Many times court rental costs are factored into Coaching Hourly Fee Rates.
My Coaching Sessions Proposal, will allow the member to participate in Open Play and afterwards attend the SKILL SPECIFIC coaching session.
This "PROPOSAL" and the start time for the Coaching Sessions would be subject to approval and recommendation by the CCPB Senior Operating Committee
Members who wish to avail themselves of my coaching services will be asked to email me (bhdpal@verizon.net) in advance of the scheduled date and time, and submit their names, phone and email contact information, including their self-assessed skill level, and their individual game playing problems they would like to be addressed.
To be clear, Skill Specific Coaching" include any member with experienced pickleball play above the "Beginner and Novice" level. Beginner is "an individual with no past or present pickleball playing experience, and no knowledge of the rules and scoring of the game. "Novice is " is an individual with limited recreational game playing experience, and does not understand the rules and scoring of the game. In the terms of skill level ratings, a Beginner is a 1.0-1.5 skill set. A novice is a 1.5 to 2.5 skill set.
My "Skill Specific Group Coaching Sessions" will be for experienced members with a self-assessed rating of 2.5 to 4.0 skill level, and have demonstrated their understanding of the game rules and scoring. Coaching Sessions for players with 4.0 and higher skill sets are specialized to identify and correct any observed inconsistencies in their game. These Sessions will specifically address advancing members physical play concerns, improving doubles synchronized team positioning strategies, court coverage, and put-away setup shot sequence.
Usually, at the higher levels of competition, players are equally matched by skill and age brackets. This is when the "MENTAL" aspect of the game is often the deciding factor as to who consistently wins and who looses.
Competitors who have learned the "DUAL PURPOSE MINDSET," of "playing aggressively to win each service, one point at a time, and playing equally aggressively to prevent their opponents from scoring ANY points during the entire game," are often the most successful.
Many high level players have a "SINGLE PURPOSE MINDSET," of "just "playing to win the game, no matter how many points the opponents score.
Developing a "DUAL PURPOSE MINDSET" in a player, requires an understanding of the individual, and the "intensity of the will to win" in that individual. Some players have it and other don't. The "DUAL PUROSE MINDSET" can be taught to a player, but because of a player's nature, they may be incapable of adapting a more aggressive mindset. But they can still go on to become great players.
