REFLECTION PART 2 BARB ELGIN COMMENT

REFLECTION PART #2 ~ WHAT PICKLEBALL MEANS TO THOSE WHO LOVE & PLAY THE SPORT ~ BARB ELGIN COMMENT

I am posting this comment from Barb Elgin. There is great wisdom in her words and adds additional substance and relevance to the original post.  Thank you Barb.

  1. As we play the game our wants might (maybe inevitably) evolve.  Mine sure have.  I'm not retired yet, so I envision what that might look like WITH PICKLEBALL!  10 years ago, I'd never heard of the game, and am so glad it came along to light my path.  10 years ago I was spending too much time sitting due to my work and my health wasn't improving but I had very little motivation to go to gyms.  I did that earlier on in my life and didn't want to do it again.

    2)  On this evolution thing: pickleball is a game that is easy to learn but not so easy to get better at.  I've found I'm at a place right now where competition is becoming more important than the social aspect. That's just me.  Two years from now I might be in a more social place with the game.

My goal in the next year or so is to continue to improve my fitness and play people with people BETTER THAN me (but not too much better than me) so that I can continue to improve.  I hope to also play in more tournaments this year (shouldn't be hard - last year i think it was 2 or 3 but I was rebuilding my business so I didn't have the time).

    3)  As far as leadership - I've determined at this point for me that I can't both be in a leadership role AND become more competitive.  I don't have the time or energy.  And it's a relief as well - I was burning out on the leadership thing.

    4)  I will continue to be outspoken.  And if I don't apologize, don't take it personal.  I'm at a point in my life where I am tired of being a 'nice girl' all the time.  Watch Taylor Swift's new documentary and you will better understand.  There is sure to still be some sexism in our sport.  And women are part of that!

    5)  If I see you out on the courts, I will be working on my game and I many not have too much time to socialize after or during.  But seek me out during the week.  I am always open to a mutually respectful friendship!
