PICKLEBALL AROUND THE POST

Of all of the well-executed pickleball shots that I witnessed during this tournament, one in particular stands out the most. And in my absent mindedness, I plumb forgot to reference it in my prior account of this event.
I specifically avoided mentioning players names in the previous post, out of respect for their privacy. Nor did I want to highlight one players Performance over another. As stated in my previous post, "In my opinion, they all deserved "Gold Medals."
The shot that impressed me the most was the infamous "Around The Net Post Return, executed by Dahlia Hirsh, while playing with her partner Charlie Garrett.
Under "USAPA & IFP Rule 11.M.(Section 11 Other Rules), Shots Around the Net Post are defined as a player may return the ball around the outside of the net post. Rule 11.M.1 states, “the ball does not need to travel back over the net.” Rule 11.M.2 states, “there is no restriction to the height of the return, so a player may return the ball around the net post below the height of the net.
Dahlia Hirsh, executed this shot in precise compliance with the rules. The shot landed just inside her opponents sideline a short distance beyond the NVZ line.
I was seated close to the court and was treated to a rare birds eye view of this highly athletic demonstration of coordination and balance. The Around The Net Post Shot is a rare treat for pickleball spectators. So I “screen shoted” four sequences of the “Around the Net Post Shot performed by Corrine Carr during the November 26, 2015 Pickleball Channel video of the Fall Brawl Pickleball Championships Gold Medal Mixed Doubles Match.

POST C-19 VIRUS, NON-TRADITIONAL PICKLEBALL PLAYING OPTION WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING

POST "C-19 VIRUS" NON-TRADITIONAL OPTION FOR PLAYING PICKLEBALL & SOCIAL DISTANCING HOW:  Maybe it's time we added a little spice to our Open Play Pickleball Format.  "Variety is the Spice of Life." Foursome play has been the hear & soul of traditional pickleball.  Now it's time to think outside the "4 player game to 11 box," if social distancing become the norm.  This is a game I first saw played when I visited Sun City Retirement Community Pickleball Assn in Arizona. Since most of us are in dire need of improving our skills, why not have a skills improvement competition.   MOTIVATION, THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE IMPACT ON YOUR GAME Based on my personal observations, a Pickleball player’s motivation to improve involves five (5) incentives: (1) to beat their friends at Open Play; (2) to play with and against the “big fish” in their local pickleball pond; (3) to attend local sanctioned tournaments in hopes of winning a medal; (4) to play for fun and exercise, happy to bang the ball back and forth across the net until someone misses. Then there is number five (5), the autodidactic player, who plays and competes against themselves.
