EXECUTING THE "PERFECT" DROP SHOT CLINIC PART I
."EXECUTING THE PERFECT DROP SHOT CLINIC"
Sunday June 10, 2018, from 2 to 3:30 pm PHMS Outdoor Courts. Six (6) participants max, who can execute an underhanded lob shot from the back court area.
Email Registration is bhdpal@verizon.net. The cost of this clinic will be $10 per person in advance. Half of each participants registration fee is donated to Charm City Pickleball Club to purchase needed pickleball equipment and court accessories. The other half goes to purchasing pickleball equipment and court accessories for coaching.
What is "The Perfect Drop Shot (PDS) ?' The PDS is not the same as a Drop Shot. The basic Drop Shot arcs on your side of the net and lands somewhere in the opponents NVZ.
The PDS is a soft lifting, lofting of the ball just high enough to arc on your side of the net, and then drop near vertical within 6" of net on opponent's side of the court. The PDS is usually executed from the back court area.
Any Drop Shot is considered one of the most difficult shots in pickleball to master. I can explain to you how to do the PDS, I can show you how to do the PDS, but I cannot learn how to do this shot for you.
Before taking this or any other clinic. You must understand that whatever you are taught in the clinic, you must practice at home on a regular basis before you can consistently execute the shot. If you are not willing to practice after the clinic, you are wasting your time, and your money.
I taught the PDS to three female participants in one of my Beginners Classes. These ladies have been attending these classes for several sessions. Their skill sets have improved since they started. Now 30 minutes of instructions they were hitting the PDS from mid-court and landing the ball close to the net on the opponents side of the court. On lady in particular used it three times to win two of the beginners skill practice games. Talk about one excited new pickleball player.
What makes the PDS better than the basic DS? Mobile opponents can scramble to return the DS in the NVZ. The PDA is so close to the net that even many fast player will hit the ball into the net or hang up his/her paddle in the netting.
Another of the key elements of the Perfect Drop Shot is the "aiming point," real or imagined. For teaching the PERFECT DROP SHOT aiming point, I use a "visual teaching aid called the "SKY BALL."
Some players also require the use of my visual teaching aid called the "CANNON BALL." to develop the correct stroke form and motion for this shot.
Participants will also receive a PERFECT DROP SHOT HANDOUT to review for home practicing.
I am a firm believer in teaching by demonstration, illustration and visual teaching aids, such as my "TATTLE PADDLE" and "DOUBLES DANCE TETHER." Standing in front of a group lecturing is boring and often non-receptive. I don't lecture, and my students don't like being lectured to.
The remaining elements of the PDS are just as important to executing this winning pickleball shot. These elements will be taught and demonstrated at the CLINIC.
