BEN JOHNS CLINICS

BEN JOHNS CLINIC
Who is in besides me? Do you want skill specific or skill advancing? How many to a group, no more than 8. Over 8 would require another session.
You will need to know your skill level. Don't over rate yourself. If you sign up for a 3.5 to 4.0 and your skill sets are 2.5 to 3.5 you are going to waste your money
Remember we are talking "skill sets," the ability to perform specific skills and demonstrate knowledge of rules, scoring and doubles strategy required for that skill assessment.
Check out the IPTPA Skill Assessments and see if you can perform each of the required skills, correct form and ball placement 8 out of 10 times under the scrutiny of a Certified Rating Specialist?
Its not about your scores and who you can beat. Its all about how well you can consistently perform the individual required skill sets, knowledge and strategy. When you go for a Certified Skill Assessment, you play in one or two match games with players of similar skill sets.
The CRS does not care who wins or looses, he observes the player being assessed, and check off each of the required skill sets that the player does perform during those games, and he minuses out the skill sets that the player cannot perform correctly. The CRS then has a skill assessment calculator where he enters all of the ya's and na's and the calculator determines your skill assessment.
This takes away most all of the subjectivity out of the rating process, as opposed to Club Ratings by uncertified club members or USAPA Sanctioned Tournament Score Ratings based on what bracket you competed in considering both age and bracket designation. Often times a player does not get to play with other of same skill level or same age bracket, You can be bumped up or down depending on the number of competitors in the tournament.
This happened to me and my doubles partner a while back. Because not enough payers were in our age bracket with our rating, we got bumped up and had to play against a 4.5 and a 4.0 ranked opponents. Needless to say we didn't win gold. If we would have played in our skill bracket we may have done a lot better. Who knows? You get the point!
Didn't want to go off on a tangent but I did!
Back to Ben Johns Clinic. We would probably need to travel to College Park on a day and time convenient for Ben. I don't know what his Clinic fees are probably a thousand or two an hours. Don't gripe, in a few short years, Ben is going to be #1 Mens Pickleball Player in the World, and I want to be there when he does it. MAYBE?
I would suggest doing the clinic when the weather warms enough to go outside, April ? Or maybe we can work out an travel arrangement to get Ben here? We shouldn't/t wait on this. His schedule is going to fill up fast. Ben is in very high demand.

PICKLEBALL BOOTCAMP BEN JOHNS, MATHEW BLOM & CHRISTINE McGRATH
This is a good event for Intermediates wanting to move up to Advanced. Plus the price is also good. 8 hours of instruction with 3 certified IPTPA Pro Coaches total $325 breaks down to $40 per hour. Considering many Pro Instructors charge as high as $60 per hour per one coach. Here you get 3 coaches for $40 an hour. Plus the 2 1/2 day hotel double occupancy rate of $191 total is very reasonable.
TWO DAYS 4 HOURS INSTRUCTION EACH DAY TOTAL 8 HOURS INSTRUCTION
$325 price includes the 4 hours of instruction on March 17 and 4 hours on March 18, Scintas show tickets, lunch on both camp days, gaming vouchers, and Oscars Steakhouse discount voucher.
$146 for 16th and 17th Plaza hotel (where bootcamp is held)
$45 for Plaza hotel Las Vegas on 18th. Arrive on March 17 day before BootCamp
$471 Round trip air fair BWI to LAS 8:35am depart 11:04am arrive Spirit Air. * We can probably do a lot better on round trip air fail if we shop around or book thru a travel agency. Anyone got any suggestions or recommendations ?
