BEN JOHNS' BACKHAND ROLL

"BEN JOHNS BACKHAND ROLL"

I followed the step by step instructions in Ben's Backhand Roll Article in the National Pickleball Magazine Dec/Jan Issue.  Well worth the read for adding something new and highly effective to your attack game arsenal.

Just when I thought this 76 year old body couldn't handle any more fast moving paddle trickery at the net, along came "Ben," with a fireball attack style dink, that will create "shock and awe" with your sharpest opponents.

The best practice method to learn this unique dink is with a partner dinking crosscourt at the net.  (You can  also Google the original Ben Johns Backhand Roll on YouTube ).

First things first! Don't just read the article, STUDY IT! When you STUDY Ben's words, you will feel his intensity level for the "game" skyrocket you to the stratosphere.  First comes the' SETUP"  body stance, and "split step footwork. Add to this,  a  forward leaning "BJ" style LIMBO CROUCH, at the ready position, patiently awaiting the perfect incoming dink.

Then and only then will "Big Ben" set in motion his  "way-low to high, below the ball ,brush-up, top spin stroke.

It all begins with a "Houston we have ignition," style launch, complete with booster rocket acceleration, just as the paddle reaches the top of the stroke with warp speed, that blasts  the ball low and fast at the opponents feet.

Ben plays a high octane, race pace game. He is known for his  fire in the belly oncourt performances, that generate a fist pumping exuberance, and variety of victorious facial expressions.  This same energetic formula for success, was on display during the 2017 Nationals when he toppled some of the best pickleball players in the world.

Rest assured "sports-fans" we haven't heard the last from "Ben Johns." And the BACKHAND ROLL style dink is just an precursor of "new age pickleball " that  we can expect from "Big Ben.:
