REFLECTION

REFLECTION ~ WHAT PICKLEBALL MEANS TO THOSE WHO LOVE AND PLAY THE SPORT Pickleball is not just a game, its life in a microcosm played out in  an 11 point contest of wills, wits and endurance. Pickleball  has the same highs and lows, successes and failures, rewards and disappointments that we experience in our day to day trials and tribulations. But for many, Pickleball is the shining beacon of hope, peace and tranquility, that we look forward to enjoying. This "simplistic pastime is our escape from the worries and unfulfilled expectations of reality. But it comes with a price tag. That price tag is uncontrollable mental and physical addiction. Our minds crave the strategical stimulation, and our bodies are fueled by quickness of motion that strains our muscles to perform that which we thought was impossible. It is on these hallowed courts,  that we are freed  from  inhibitions and can return to that child-like euphoria of our youth.  . Of...

COMMON PICKLEBALL INJURIES AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM

CHAD CASSERLY FORWARDED THIS ARTICLE ON ;PICKLEBALL INJURIE I will ad that the very first thing that I teach New Beginner Players is, "NO BALL IS WORTH A FALL" and for experienced players its, "NO POINT IS WORTH A BROKEN JOINT." ("Coach Joe" original rhyming versus ) Common pickleball injuries and how to prevent them by Terri Akman, For The Philly Inquirer, Updated: January 14, 2020 Nancy Freedman loves playing pickleball, despite fracturing her hip during a game in 2017. At the time, she had been playing two or three times a week, so she was in good shape. But she lost her footing on a routine shot, landing on her right hip. After having surgery to insert a plate and pin, 11 months later she fractured her femur, though not while playing pickleball. Then she had to get that right hip replaced entirely. No matter. Freedman, 68, is back on the pickleball court. “It’s a very social game and is easy to pick up beyond a beg...

AFFECTS OF EXTRA POUNDS ON AGING PICKLEBALL PLAYERS

THE AFFECTS OF EXTRA POUNDS ON AN AGING PICKLEBALL PLAYER ********************************************************************* I have self-evaluated my physical condition in preparation for this long term rehab.  Each pound of excess body fat equates to 40 pounds of bearing weight on all of the joints in our bodies. As part of my recovery I have set a 22 pound body fat weight loss goal.  As I age, excess pounds are my worst health nemesis.  During the past year prior to my injury I noticed my pickleball mobility was declining, slowing my forward advancement to the NVZ, clunkiest split steps and foot dragging lateral ball covering shuffles at the line.  Although my shot performance and ball placement had advanced, my overall ability to move fast had diminished. I failed to factor my numerical aging into the formula.  Had I done so then, I would have concluded that for my age, height, bone density, muscle tissue, I was 20 pounds over an ...

DOUBLES PICKLEBALL LADDER LEAGUE TEMPLATES.

DOUBLES PICKLEBALL TEAM LADDER LEAGUES TEMPLATES The USAPA webpage under Tournaments has software templates for most any kind of tournament imaginable.  USAPA members can obtain the software free, and register their ladder league in the same process. If 4 players can rotate in three game in one two hour period, logically 8 players or 4 teams can do the same.  I have never run a ladder league.  But I can work with templates and add or subtract to accomplish my objective. Recreational/competitive Pickleball is team related. recreational/competitive ladder leagues can and should be team related. By team related you pick your partner before the LL starts and you play with that same partner until the end of the LL.  Scores can be aggregate and represent one team.  Rotation of play will require more scheduling woos but its not rocket science.  The All Ladies Summer LL I was planned back in Summer 2019, was permanent partners, comprising 16 teams...

PICKLEBALL TRAINING AID FOR RECOVING PLAYERS

Image
This training aid is what I am using in my living room to keep my paddle skills in tune and to keep my stroke in a smooth linear motion pushing the ball forward towards a specific imaginary target.  The ball is tethered and designed to return to your desired strike zone to repeat the process. It is originally designed for tennis practice but I easily convereted it to pickleball by replacing the tennis ball with a pickleball.  I sit in a chair and adjust the height to my strike zone. I repeatedly hit the ball as many as 100 times.  This training aid is a product of Fang zhou Tennis Practice Trainer, Sturdy and Durable is Highly Exquisite Design Fine Workmanship for Eye Coordination Improve Your Concentration. ...
